Outdoor Education
Weekly outdoor adventures give our students the opportunity to push themselves to the limit, to learn through success as well as failure, to grow as leaders, and to marvel at the awesomeness of God’s creation.
One of the unique offerings at St. Clare’s is a boldly adventurous outdoor education program. In August, the school year starts with a leadership ropes course challenge followed by a Sierra High Country backpacking expedition designed to push students to the limit and expand their comfort zones. Students carry heavy packs, hike for miles up into the high country, and take on various critical roles: navigating, setting camp, cooking, leading the group in prayer, and keeping morale high. Staff leadership uses real world challenges to direct the students’ focus to the scriptures when challenges arise, and uses end of the day reflections to help students grow in faith when they encounter fear or failure. Throughout the year, Friday afternoons are spent enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. On Friday afternoons you’ll find the Golden Eagles rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing, and engaged in various other outdoor activities throughout the year.
